Smythson journals are filled with our Featherweight paper, first copyrighted by Frank Smythson in 1916 and used ever since. It’s crafted to be exceptionally light yet remarkably strong, around half the thickness of ordinary paper, enabling slim and portable journals which can even hold a fountain pen’s ink. Instantly recognizable by its signature blue hue, each page is watermarked with a distinctive globe and feather as a marker of authenticity.
We recommend purchasing your new year journal between September and November, when we release our new journal collection each year. Shopping early ensures the widest selection of styles, layouts and seasonal colors, and allows time for additional personalization ahead of the Christmas gifting season.
Yes, you can personalize your Smythson journal to make it uniquely yours with initials, nicknames or motifs. We offer a selection of motifs, sizes and typefaces which can be gold, silver or blind-stamped onto the leather by one of our skilled artisans. You can also choose the placement of your personalization to suit your preference. Please note that personalized journals are stamped to order, may require additional time for delivery, and cannot be returned.
Smythson’s full-year journals are designed to follow the calendar year, starting in January and running through to December, making them ideal for those planning ahead for work, personal goals or the new year.
We also offer a selection of mid-year journals, typically running from May to the following August, for those who prefer a mid-year reset. Our academic journals, running from July to the following June, are designed with students and teachers in mind, aligning seamlessly with the academic calendar.
